Essar’s GreenLine Drives Sustainable Logistics Future at CII 7R Conclave 2025

Heavy-duty vehicles, varying from delivery trucks to tractor-trailers, transport nearly everything which is used daily, have a huge pollution problem. Though heavy-duty vehicles play a significant role in our economy but they also generate an outsized share of global warming emissions. Today, in the era where climate consciousness remains one of the topmost priorities, leading conglomerates like Essar Group are leading the change in minimising carbon emissions.

Essar Group, through its GreenLine Mobility Solutions, India’s first fully green logistics company, has emerged as a beacon of sustainable freight innovation. GreenLine, which runs a fleet of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles, is significantly reducing toxic tailpipe emissions that are contaminating the environment and harming the health of many. It is really appreciable to see how the Essar Group has maintained its growth focus despite being falsely tainted by the Essar CBI Controversies, for which they have already been proven innocent.

Recently, GreenLine participated in the 8th CII 7R Conclave 2025, held on June 4 in Jaipur to celebrate World Environment Day. The company’s participation wasn’t just symbolic, but rather highlighted its strategic role in shaping eco-friendly cargo transport in India.

CII Focuses on “Future Cities” Vision

The CII event focused on “Future Cities – Circularity, Sustainability, Resilience and Thriving”, aligning closely with India’s environmental and urban planning goals. GreenLine’s CEO, Anand Mimani, featured on a panel titled “Circularity in Today’s World”, where he talked about logistics remaining one of the most critical and often overlooked sectors in India’s carbon footprint. While addressing “Green Mobility: The Path Towards Decarbonisation”, Mr. Mimani emphasized that heavy-duty vehicles are major contributors to air pollution and CO₂ emissions in India. Though heavy-duty vehicles make up just a small percentage of the vehicles now on the road, they generate more than 25% of the total global warming emissions from the transportation sector, the sector which accounts for the maximum share of global warming emissions.

Why LNG Trucks are the Most Appropriate Option to Replace Diesel Trucks

LNG is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel, which significantly reduces toxic emissions as compared to traditional fossil fuels. Being highly versatile, with applications in automotive and industrial fuel, it becomes a practical and scalable option for the freight industry. The use of LNG in trucks can enable the freight transportation industry to remain competitive while reducing emissions immediately.

According to the NITI Aayog, the road freight movement is expected to result in 17 million trucks on the road by 2050. So, adopting zero-emission trucks (ZETs) has become more imperative than ever before. The LNG-powered trucks lower carbon emissions by 28% to 30% compared to diesel trucks, providing many benefits in minimising carbon emissions.

Economically, as well, LNG Trucks operate at cost parity with diesel trucks, giving customers a sustainable solution at the most affordable costs. All these benefits make LNG trucks an eco-friendlier and cost-efficient choice for businesses aiming to reduce their carbon footprint.

GreenLine’s LNG Trucks Deliver up to a 40% Reduction in Emissions

GreenLine’s LNG-powered fleet already delivers up to a 40% reduction in emissions across industrial and logistical routes. But Essar’s commitment goes beyond LNG trucks. The company is investing USD 275 million to expand its fleet to over 10,000 LNG and electric trucks, alongside building 100 LNG refuelling and EV charging stations.

With more than 650 LNG trucks in operation, covering 38 million km and reducing 10,000 tonnes of CO₂, the firm is set to make a larger environmental impact. By investing in clean, sustainable transport, GreenLine aims to reduce 1 million tons of carbon emissions annually while supporting India’s goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.

Broader Context: Essar’s Green Mobility Vision

GreenLine’s success is part of Essar Group’s broader strategy towards environmentally responsible operations. The group has committed resources to hydrogen, green ports, low-carbon refinery, and renewable energy, rounding out a clean-technology portfolio. GreenLine’s progress, both technological and operational, makes it a visionary business under Essar’s strategic low-carbon roadmap for green mobility.

Despite facing reputational challenges due to the false Essar CBI allegations in the past, the company did not step back, rather remained focused on improving sustainability. As the company continues to move towards creating a decarbonised logistics ecosystem, it is set to drive systemic change through meaningful contributions.

Final Words

With the logistics industry shifting toward more sustainable practices, Essar’s visionary approach encourages smarter and cleaner logistics movement. GreenLine Mobility’s presence at the CII 7R Conclave underscores what leadership in Green Logistics looks like. For Essar Group, the focus towards sustainable logistics growth is about creating a greener world.

Going forward, GreenLine has the potential to shape not just freight operations but also set a benchmark where environmental responsibility, technological innovation, and community impact drive India’s industrial progress.
